These resources are for individual practitioners, teams and those with a role in education to help improve and assess users' knowledge of relevant NICE guidance and its application in practice.

Online learning resources

NICE has developed a range of online learning resources in collaboration with partners and has identified a range of additional tools to support implementation of NICE guidance. Using the online education modules will enable you to:

  • keep up to date with recent evidence as summarised in the relevant NICE guidance
  • challenge misconceptions about putting the guidance into practice
  • apply your newly acquired knowledge in your practice and to address any potential barriers
  • reflect and compare your own practice with the NICE recommendations

The tools are free to use and open to all. As some are produced in partnership with organisations, they are hosted on different websites, you may need to provide your email address and a password to register.

Academic detailing aids

NICE academic detailing aids (ADAs) are for use by experienced prescribing and medicines management personnel to support discussions with prescribers on key prescribing and medicines optimisation messages.

The principles that support the use of academic detailing to improve clinical decision-making, including reducing inappropriate prescribing as well as unnecessary healthcare expenditure, have been documented widely (Soumerai and Avorn 1990, National Audit Office 2007).

NICE has currently produced ADAs to support the implementation of NICE guidance and to support the QIPP medicines use and procurement workstream.

Slide sets

These slide sets provide a framework for discussion with a variety of audiences and can assist in local dissemination of NICE guidance. They can be tailored for local presentations and include background notes for presenters. The slides contain key messages - they do not cover all recommendations.

Where guidance recommendations span different clinical or service settings or they are aimed at several different audiences, NICE may produce more than one slide set for the guidance topic. The settings column on the right hand side of the table below can be used to sort slide sets by their setting.
