The Institute has recently reviewed the role of the Executive Lead (EL).
Previously the Executive Lead was responsible for oversight of each guidance topic as it moved through the different stages of the development process, resolving policy issues and for signing off documents for consultation.
Following a recent internal review, the Executive Lead will now provide an advisory role and the specific actions of the Executive Lead as outlined in the current process documents will no longer apply.
The table below gives further information on the new role of the Executive Lead and what input is expected for each of the NICE work programmes:

Allocate an EL to each Technology Appraisal, after the final referral has been received. |

“As needed” means that involvement is required only when there is a particularly complex issue that is best dealt with by the Executive Lead. The Executive Lead will be notified of the need for his or her involvement by the Project Manager or Commissioning Manager.
