Research and Development
The United Kingdom has an outstanding record of scientific innovation through research and development (R&D).
NICE is at the forefront of international efforts to improve the management of the health of the population. NICE operates in an extremely challenging environment and the science continues to evolve rapidly. The important role of R&D in ensuring NICE is proactive and responsive is recognised in NICE’s Corporate Strategy and Business Plan.
All teams at NICE participate in R&D activities to ensure that NICE’s processes, methods and policies remain up to date and fit for purpose. Many projects are co-ordinated by NICE’s R&D team.
NICE also produces recommendations for further clinical and public health research to address key uncertainties that have been identified during guidance production. This is to ensure that the necessary research is undertaken to inform future guidance reviews.
NICE does not have a remit or budget for undertaking research and therefore works with the research community to ensure the necessary research is undertaken.
