HDA publications

Many Health Development Agency (HDA) publications are available in PDF format below. These publications were either:

  • produced by the HDA, or
  • commissioned by them, but published after its functions were transferred to NICE.

While these publications help support evidence-based decision making by public health practitioners, they do not represent NICE guidance.

Networks and neighbourhoods: children's and young people's perspectives

This research used qualitative methods to explore the subjective experiences of 12-15 year olds' lives, communities and social networks. It analyses the advantages and limitations of using 'social capital' as a concept in health-related research, discussing a number of conceptual, methodological, and theoretical limitations. It suggests that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child constitute a framework for action.
