Management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in adults in primary and secondary care (partial update). This guideline partially updates and replaces NICE clinical guideline 12
This guidance is for the care and treatment of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (which is usually shortened to COPD) in the NHS in England and Wales. It explains guidance (advice) from NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence). It is written for people with COPD but it may also be useful for their families or carers or for anyone with an interest in the condition.
The advice in the NICE guideline covers:
- the diagnosis, treatment and care of adults with COPD.
It does not specifically look at:
-
the treatment of people with:
- asthma
- a condition called bronchopulmonary dysplasia
- bronchiectasis (a condition that affects the lungs).
This is an update of advice on COPD that NICE produced in 2004. This booklet includes the advice that was published in 2004 and the updated 2010 advice.
