Apply for the role of Chair to the management of fractured neck of femur guideline development group within the NCC-AC

The National Collaborating Centre for Acute Care (NCC-AC) is hosted by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The NCC-AC has been commissioned by NICE to develop an evidence-based clinical guideline on the management of fractured neck of femur and is currently looking to recruit a chair for the Guideline Development Group (GDG).

Chairs for the Guideline Development Group are drawn from the NHS, healthcare professionals, patients and carers and academia. They do not represent their organisations but are selected for their expertise, experience of working with multidisciplinary and lay colleagues and understanding of evidence based healthcare.

All members of the Guideline Development Group have equal status, which reflects the relevance and importance of their different expertise and experience. They include health professionals and researchers as well as patient and carer members. All Group members need to attend regular meetings and undertake background reading.

Skills and experience

We are looking for an individual with a specialist or particular interest in the management of fractured neck of femur who is a skilled and experienced leader.Applicants will have experience of working with multi-professional committees or working groups at a national or regional level. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written skills are required, along with an ability to communicate complex issues to differing audiences. Applicants will have experience of guideline development processes, with an understanding of systematic reviews, critical appraisal methods and the role of health economics. Once appointed, the Chair will work closely with the NCC-AC technical team responsible for reviewing and presenting the evidence to the Guideline Development Group.

Time commitment and conditions

The GDG chair, supported by the methodological team at the NCC-AC, will be expected to chair GDG meetings every 4-8 weeks for approximately 12-18 months with meetings for this guideline estimated to begin in June 2008. There will be some work required before this time to help recruit the other members of the GDG, finalise the guideline scope and agree the project plan.
