Open femoro-acetabular surgery for hip impingement syndrome
Summary
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued full guidance to the NHS in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on open femoro-acetabular surgery for hip impingement syndrome.
Description
Hip impingement may restrict movement of the hip joint and can be painful. It may be caused by an unusual shape of the hip socket (the acetabulum) or of the head of the thigh bone (femur). Surgery involves removing cartilage or bone, with the aim of reshaping the hip joint.
OPCS code:
X22.8 Other specified correction of congenital deformity of hip
Z84.3 Hip joint
The NHS Classifications Service of NHS Connecting for Health is the central definitive source for clinical coding guidance and determines the coding standards associated with the classifications (OPCS-4 and ICD-10) to be used across the NHS. The NHS Classifications Service and NICE work collaboratively to ensure the most appropriate classification codes are provided. www.connectingforhealth.co.uk/clinicalcoding
