Information for the public
Holoclar (a layer of cells grown from cells taken from your own eye) is available on the NHS. It is a possible treatment for moderate to severe limbal stem cell deficiency in people who have eye burns, only if:
- it is only used to treat 1 eye and
- they have already had, or can’t have, a conjunctival limbal autograft.
Holoclar is also available on the NHS for treating both eyes when there is not enough tissue for a conjunctival limbal autograft, but only for people taking part in a research study (clinical trial).
