What we need

We need evidence for the guideline we are developing on advocacy services for adults with health and social care needs. The guideline aims to outline general principles about advocacy and covers advocacy in its broadest definition when it is provided by a third party. This includes professional advocacy, citizen advocacy, family advocacy and peer advocacy. In particular, we need evidence or guidelines that cover:

  • What effective advocacy looks like
  • How to improve access to advocacy services
  • Information and signposting to advocacy services
  • Planning, commissioning and monitoring of advocacy services
  • Advocacy services working with families and carers
  • Training and skills for advocates

We are particularly interested in evidence promoting equality of opportunity relating to age, disability, sex, gender identity, ethnicity, religion and belief, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status.

We would like:

  • evidence or guidelines published since 2005
  • unpublished information related to research since 2005, including any ongoing research.

We cannot accept promotional material, non-evidence-based assertions of effectiveness or opinion pieces.
