New topics sought for commissioning guides 08/09

The NICE commissioning team is looking ahead to its third cycle of the commissioning guide programme to commence in April 2008. We want to identify suitable topics for the guides based on established NICE guidance in topic areas that are important to health service commissioners.

Ideally, we would like suggestions for topics where there is a considerable burden of disease, variation in activity or practice and where there might be additional population benefit from changes in service provision.

The purpose of the web-based commissioning guides is to help the NHS in England effectively commission evidence-based care for local populations. They provide detailed support for commissioners on specific clinical topics highlighting key clinical and service-related issues. Each guide contains a commissioning tool, which is an interactive resource that can be used to estimate and inform the level of service needed locally as well as the cost of local commissioning decisions applied at the level of general practice, groupings of general practices, PCT or SHA.

Please e-mail any suggestions for 2008/2009 topics to commissioningguides@nice.org.uk by 31 December 2007 using the following framework:

What is the topic area? (e.g. mental health, CHD)
Which specific aspects of the topic would you like to suggest? (e.g. CBT, cardiac rehabilitation
Which NICE guideline(s) underpin the topic?
What makes the topic a commissioning priority/problem?
