Costing team on tour

Two members of the costing team at NICE joined the local implementation consultant, Jayne Chidgey-Clark, at a workshop hosted by the South West Strategic Health Authority (SHA) in September. The aims of the workshop were to;

  • discuss why forward planning and costing is important
  • demonstrate the forward planning and costing tools
  • explain how they were developed
  • get feedback on how they are being used and
  • explore what improvements can be made.

The SHA had done an excellent job of advertising and organising the event and the audience included a cross section of staff from PCTs, provider trusts and the SHA, with disciplines such as finance, commissioning, pharmacy and clinical governance represented.

A key benefit of the day was the opportunity for attendees to share learning across their area concluding with a discussion of how to continue sharing and developing a consistent approach across the SHA. The feedback also provided the costing team with some good ideas to take forward when we discuss how we can improve the tools and ensure we continue to meet the needs of users.

We are more than happy to support other SHAs to host a workshop for the benefit of their local organisations. If you would like to host a similar event in your SHA please visit www.nice.org.uk/implementationcons to find out how to contact your local implementation consultant.
