Our regular update from one of the regional Implementation Consultants.
This month Gill Matthews tells us what she's been up to in the North East.

I love the autumn – children back to school, time to bring out all those comforting jumpers, cords, tweeds and boots, and, somehow the sun always manages to come out for a final effort before shutting down for the winter. It always feels like a new start to me – and for the implementation consultants it is time to look ahead for the next six months and a fresh focus for our work.

PCTs and providers cannot have missed the press stories surrounding access to treatment for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). NICE issued final guidance in August, and those areas that have not already started to provide treatment had three months (to October) to provide funds for treatment. The costing template issued at the same time as the guidance helps commissioners and providers plan ahead – estimating the potential numbers requiring treatment and what resources will be required.
