Patient safety solutions pilot
As a result of the review of patient safety commissioned by the Chief Medical Officer, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) have been asked to develop and evaluate a pilot project for the production of a technical solution to address patient safety problems, which will form guidance for the NHS in England. The pilot project will be carried out from April 2007.
Safety guidance on medicines reconciliation on admission of adults to hospital was issued to the NHS 12th December 2007. Safety guidance on prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia in adults is expected to be issued to the NHS in mid 2008.
The pilot will involve assessing the evidence on clinical and cost-effectiveness and producing recommendations for the NHS.
