The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in collaboration with BMJ Learning has produced a learning resource that will help medical students and other health professionals to learn about evidence-based decision making in health and healthcare. ‘Evidence into Practice' is an e-learning programme designed to improve the application of evidence based medicine and enhance the implementation of NICE guidelines.
The Evidence into Practice e-learning programme includes the following themes:
- Evidence based medicine and following guidance - how to do it
- Making decisions - how to do it in an evidence based and fair way
- Changing practice - how to understand, identify, and overcome barriers to change
- Health promotion and audit and feedback - how to do it.
These e-learning modules are available free to all through a simple registration process at BMJ Learning or through e-Learning for Healthcare (e-LFH) if you are either pre-registered (as will shortly be the case for all medical students) or if your organisation has the ESR (Electronic Staff Record).
The modules aim to support medical students, foundation doctors, pharmacists and nurses to acquire skills that will help bridge the gap between the theory of evidence based medicine and putting the principles of evidence based medicine into practice.
