Mohammed, M. A. et al (2013) Patterns of Warfarin Use in Subgroups of Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: A Cross-Sectional Analysis of 430 General Practices in the United Kingdom PLoS ONE 8(5): e61979. doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0061979

Description: This retrospective study investigated the underuse and overuse of warfarin in the management of Atrial Fibrillation (AF) across 430 general practices in the UK. Records from all patients in The Health Improvement Network (THIN) database on 1st May 2010 were included in the analysis. Results found 37.0%, (4573/12351) of low risk AF patients were on warfarin, compared with 47.1% (8349/17709) moderate risk patients and 54.9% (11142/20301) high risk patients.

Kassianos, G. et al (2013) Current management of atrial fibrillation: an observational study in NHS primary care BMJ Open 2013;3:e003004

Description: This study describes the management pathway of patients with atrial fibrillation during a 3-year period from diagnosis. Retrospective data were collected from March to August 2010 on 825 patients from 8 general medical practices in England and Wales.
