Lee, F. et al (2012) Management of ovarian cancer in primary care. An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Conference Publication: (var.pagings). 119 (pp 173), 2012. Date of Publication: June 2012.

Description: This study examined the quality of urgent referrals for suspected ovarian cancer to a specialist gynae-oncology service, along with comparing any change in practice before and after the introduction of NICE guidelines in April 2011. 96 referral letters from primary care from Oct 2010-Sep 2011 were reviewed. Findings show documented abdominal examinations before and after publication of guidance as 69%/68.5%. Request for Serum CA-125 tests were 71.4% before and 87% after guidance publication.

Ford, A. et al (2013) UK guidance on diagnosis of ovarian cancer: Its impact on services in an acute general hospital European Journal of Cancer. 2013 Conference (var.pagings)

Description: This study measured the impact of guidance issued in April 2011 recommending women with symptoms suggesting epithelial ovarian cancer have measurement of CA125, at the biochemistry laboratory at Airedale General Hospital. Results found that there were 486 requests for CA125 from primary care during November 2010 ? April 2011 and 1314 during May ? October 2011 ? an increase of 170%.
