February 2016

As part of a long standing engagement in Ghana, Kalipso Chalkidou and Francoise Cluzeau met with colleagues in Accra to agree a plan of activities to help improve priority setting in Ghana as an essential step towards universal health coverage.

Working with the Department of Pharmaceuticals of the Ministry of Health they held discussions with the Honourable Alex Segbefia, Ghana Minister of Health, members of Parliament, Director General of Ghana Health Service, the College of Physicians and Surgeons, health officials from the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA), the University of Ghana, NGOs in Health and the Ghana Association of Quasi Government Health Institutions.

A pilot health technology Assessment (HTA) project, linking with the Standard Treatment Guidelines Programmes, is now underway, which will address a priority area for Ghana and involve input from relevant stakeholders in Ghana.
