Cancer technologies

  • Horizon scanning and topic selection

    Approximately 20 months before marketing authorisation (MA). 

  • Formal referral request submitted

  • Company notified of progression to scoping

    We let companies know that their technology has progressed to our scoping stage and direct them to early information on our charging.

  • Formal referral received from Secretary of State

  • Scope development

  • Draft scope consultation

  • Unique reference request sent to company

    Unique reference request sent to company - approximately 3 months before the invitation to participate (ITP). Confirmation required that they will participate in the appraisal before the ITP is issued.

    Our usual invoice payment terms apply - payment expected within 30 days of receipt of invoice.

  • Appraisal paused if payment not received

    Appraisal paused if payment not received in full by the deadline for the evidence submission.


Non-cancer technologies

    Decision on technology appraisal (TA)/highly specialised technologies (HST) routing to scope consultation.

  • Draft scope consultation

    Decision on TA/HST routing and whether a referral should be sought from the Secretary of State.

  • Formal referral request submitted

  • Formal referral received from Secretary of State

  • Unique reference request sent to company

    Unique reference request sent to company. Confirmation required that they will participate in the appraisal - approximately 3 months before invitation to participate (ITP).

    Our usual invoice terms will apply - payment expected within 30 days of receipt of invoice.

  • Invitation to participate (ITP)

  • Assessment paused if payment not received

    Assessment paused if payment not received in full by the deadline for evidence submission.


Small companies 

The above staging points also apply to small companies. Timings are approximate.

  • Unique reference request sent to company (40% of charge due)

    Unique reference request sent to company - approximately 3 months before the invitation to participate (ITP). Confirmation required that the company will participate in the appraisal before the ITP is issued.

    The company is required to pay an initial 40% of the charge on receipt of invoice.

    Our usual invoice terms will apply - payment expected within 30 days of receipt of invoice.

  • Invitation to participate (ITP) (0 days)

  • Evidence submission (60 days)

  • Appraisal paused if payment not received

    Appraisal paused if initial 40% payment is not received by the deadline for the evidence submission.

  • Evidence review (60 days)

  • Technical engagement (75 days)

  • Committee preparation (30 days)

  • Payment required (50% of charge)

    Company to pay a further 50% of the charge before the circulation of the agenda for the first committee meeting discussing the technology.

  • Appraisal committee meeting

  • Final payment required (10% of charge)

    Company to pay the final 10% of the charge before the publication of the appraisal (final guidance).

  • Appraisal paused if payment not received

    Appraisal paused before the draft or final guidance being issued if payment not received in full from the company.

  • Draft or final guidance issued
