February 2017: The evidence has been reviewed for the sections on measuring fetal heart rate as part of the initial assessment and on fetal monitoring during labour. Recommendations for which the evidence was reviewed are labelled . Recommendations were added or amended, or the committee agreed that no changes were needed to the recommended actions.

November 2016: A recommendation about team midwifery was deleted, and a new recommendation was added (labelled ) that cross-refers to information about continuity of care in the NICE guideline on patient experience in NHS services.
Minor changes since publication
December 2021: We added a link to NICE's guideline on pelvic floor dysfunction in recommendation 1.16.22. We also stood down the recommendation for research on models of midwifery-led care as continuity of care in maternity services is now a national policy in the UK following on from the National Maternity Review on Better Births and the subsequent Maternity Transformation Programme.
