Antenatal care assessment tool - have your say

10 January 2007 - 2 February 2007

The Patient and Public Involvement Programme at NICE and the National Collaborating Centre for Women’s and Children’s Health (NCC-WCH) are looking for women with experience of NHS maternity services to participate in an online electronic survey to help determine women’s specific needs during pregnancy.

The assessment of women’s needs is a fundamental part of care during pregnancy, so the development of an acceptable and structured tool, which could be used nationally, is likely to be beneficial to both pregnant women and the professionals caring for them. The Antenatal Care Assessment Tool is being developed as part of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Antenatal Care guideline update. To develop the tool, the NCC-WCH will be asking for views from a wide-ranging audience.

The survey will be available from 10 January 2007 from the NCC-WCH’s website, and will be open until 2 February 2007. Further information can be found National Collaborating Centre for Women's and Children's Health (NCC-WCH) website. Both healthcare professionals and women with personal experience of NHS maternity services are encouraged to participate in the survey

Following the survey, the NCC-WCH will be organising a conference to further develop the Antenatal Care Assessment Tool. The conference will be held on the 14 March 2007 at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. The meeting will be an opportunity to debate any differences of opinion identified in the survey.

Those interested in participating in the conference need to contact the NCC-WCH with their details, together with a 200 word (maximum) statement outlining their interest in and experience of NHS maternity services. As spaces are limited, delegates will be selected (from those who have registered an interest), to ensure a wide range of stakeholders and a representative geographical spread. Further information can be found on the National Collaborating Centre for Women's and Children's Health (NCC-WCH) website.

The closing date for statements of interest for the conference is 2 February 2007.
