Following the written consultation on the draft remit and scope and discussions at the scoping workshop, NICE compiled a summary of its findings into a report that was discussed at the September 2020 Topic Selection Oversight Panel (TSOP). The report included advice and recommendations to aid the decision-making process as to whether the topic should continue to progress to the evaluation stage in the NICE work programme.
The TSOP concluded that an appraisal of nitisinone for treating alkaptonuria would not add value to the NHS and therefore the topic will not progress any further. NICE’s decision not to proceed with the appraisal should have no impact on existing commissioning arrangements for nitisinone.
