Information for the public
NICE has said that the following artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can be used in the NHS to help healthcare professionals detect fractures on X-rays in urgent care:
- for people of any age:
- Rayvolve
- TechCare Alert
- for people 2 years and over:
- BoneView
- RBfracture.
The NHS is collecting more evidence for these technologies. You might be asked if details of your treatment can be collected as evidence. You can ask your healthcare professional about how your information will be stored and used.
NICE has said that the AI technology qMSK can only be used as part of a research study in adults.
About the technologies
AI technologies that can help healthcare professionals detect fractures on X-ray images could improve the accuracy of fracture diagnoses in urgent care (such as emergency departments, urgent treatment centres and minor injuries units). This could reduce the number of missed fractures, and so reduce the risk of further injury and the likelihood that people need to come back to urgent care. It could also reduce the number of unnecessary referrals to fracture clinics.
