Resource impact summary report

Resource impact summary report

This summary report is based on the NICE assumptions used in the resource impact template. Users can amend the 'Inputs and eligible population' and 'Unit costs' worksheets in the template to reflect local data and assumptions.

Financial and capacity resource impact

The key drivers of resource impact are the:

  • number of people having cardiac rehabilitation

  • number of cardiac rehabilitation sessions provided

  • cost of digital cardiac rehabilitation technology licenses.

Users can input and amend the assumptions about the resource impact drivers in the resource impact template.

Digital technologies have the potential to improve access, uptake and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation programmes, which could reduce unplanned hospital admissions and acute events resulting from deterioration of the condition. This has not been modelled in the resource impact template.

Eligible population for cardiac rehabilitation

Table 1 shows the population who are eligible for cardiac rehabilitation.

Table 1 Population expected to be eligible for cardiac rehabilitation in England
Eligible population and uptake Number of people eligible for cardiac rehabilitation

Current practice

126,605

Future practice

126,605

The eligible population is based on National Audit of Cardiac Rehabilitation Quality and Outcomes Report 2024 (PDF only) for acute coronary syndrome without revascularisation and heart failure. Uptake rates can be added in the resource impact template based on local practice.

Treatment options for the eligible population

The comparator for the eligible population is conventional cardiac rehabilitation, which may consist of face-to-face sessions, or a hybrid programme of in-person group-based and home-based programmes.

For more information about the treatment options, such as the number of cardiac rehabilitation sessions, see the resource impact template.
