NICE has said that CaRi‑Heart should not be routinely used in the NHS to predict cardiac risk in people with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD). More research is recommended.
CaRi‑Heart is a software that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse CT scans from coronary angiography. It checks for inflammation in the arteries that supply the heart (coronary inflammation). Coronary inflammation is linked to an increased risk of having a heart attack.
More research is needed to understand what treatments should be offered to people if CaRi‑Heart identifies coronary inflammation, and if treatment would lower their risk of angina and heart attack.
