Current evidence on the safety and efficacy of radiofrequency (RF) ablation for colorectal liver metastases is adequate to support the use of this procedure in patients unfit or otherwise unsuitable for hepatic resection, or in those who have previously had hepatic resection, provided that normal arrangements are in place for clinical governance, consent and audit.

Patient selection should be carried out by a hepatobiliary cancer multidisciplinary team.
