NICE has assessed GreenLight XPS for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia to help the NHS decide whether to use this product.
GreenLight XPS uses a laser to reduce the size of an enlarged prostate, easing the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It is at least as effective as other treatment options in people who are not considered to be high-risk patients, but can more often be done as a day-case procedure (that is, you can go home on the same day as the procedure is done). It also allows you to get back to normal day-to-day activities quicker after the procedure.
GreenLight XPS may also be effective and cost saving in high-risk patients, but there is not yet enough evidence to be sure.
