July 2026 exceptional surveillance of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse in women: management (NICE guideline NG123)

In July 2026, we reviewed the recommendations on surgical management of stress urinary incontinence and related health technology guidance.

Surveillance decision

We will not update this guideline.

The new evidence does not suggest a need to update current recommendations. NICE's guideline and related health technology guidance remain appropriate, including restrictions on transvaginal mesh and selective use of abdominal or laparoscopic approaches under governance arrangements. Patient decision aids continue to support shared decision making. However, variation in practice and outcome reporting persists, supporting continued surveillance.

Overall, the decision is to retain current guidance without amendment.
