Resource impact statement

No significant resource impact is anticipated

The NICE guideline on stroke and transient ischaemic attack in over 16’s updates the guideline NG128 published in 2019. The update reviewed the evidence on blood pressure control for people with acute intracerebral haemorrhage and updated recommendations 1.5.4, 1.5.5 and 1.5.6.

We do not expect this update to have a significant impact on resources; that is:

  • the resource impact of implementing any single guideline recommendation in England will be less than £1 million per year (or approximately £1,800 per 100,000 population, based on a population for England of 56.3m people) and
  • the resource impact of implementing the whole guideline in England will be less than £5 million per year (or approximately £9,000 per 100,000 population, based on a population for England of 56.3m people).

This is because the updated recommendations reflect current best practice and we do not think practice will change substantially as a result of this guideline update.

Services for people who have had a stroke are commissioned by integrated care systems except for specialist neurosurgical interventions such as thrombectomy that are commissioned by NHS England.

Providers are NHS hospital trusts, including adult neurosciences or neurology centres and ambulance services.
