In June 2026, we reviewed the existing recommendations on referral and diagnosis.

Surveillance decision

We will update the recommendations to refer to the revised 2024 McDonald criteria, instead of the 2017 criteria. Furthermore we will remove the recommendation that stated not to diagnose multiple sclerosis on the basis of MRI findings alone. This is due to the updated criteria indicating that diagnosis may now be made based on MRI findings in some circumstances.
