This quality standard covers support for people to stop smoking. It includes referral to stop smoking services and treatments to help people to stop smoking. It describes high-quality care in priority areas for improvement.

It does not cover reducing and preventing smoking or harm-reduction approaches to smoking, which are covered in NICE’s quality standards for smoking: reducing and preventing tobacco use and smoking: harm reduction.

Keeping quality standards up to date

We checked this quality standard in 2017. It was updated to ensure alignment with the updated source guidance in stop smoking interventions and services (NICE guideline NG92).
