    This guideline covers mid-life approaches to delay or prevent the onset of dementia, disability and frailty in later life. The guideline aims to increase the amount of time that people can be independent, healthy and active in later life.

    This guideline covers a set of principles that can be used to help people change their behaviour. The aim is for practitioners to use these principles to encourage people to adopt a healthier lifestyle by, for example, stopping smoking, adopting a healthy diet and being more physically active.

  3. Type 2 diabetes prevention: population and community-level interventions (PH35)

    This guideline covers preventing type 2 diabetes in adult populations and communities who are at high risk. It aims to promote a healthy diet and physical activity at community and population level, and recommends how to tailor services for people in ethnic communities and other groups who are particularly at risk of type 2 diabetes.

  4. Oral health promotion: general dental practice (NG30)

    This guideline covers how general dental practice teams can convey advice about oral hygiene and the use of fluoride. It also covers diet, smoking, smokeless tobacco and alcohol intake.

  5. Unintentional injuries in the home: interventions for under 15s (PH30)

    This guideline covers home safety assessments, supplying and installing safety equipment and providing education and advice. It aims to prevent unintentional injuries among all children and young people aged under 15 but, in particular, those living in disadvantaged circumstances.

  6. Coexisting severe mental illness and substance misuse: community health and social care services (NG58)

    This guideline covers how to improve services for people aged 14 and above who have been diagnosed as having coexisting severe mental illness and substance misuse. The aim is to provide a range of coordinated services that address people’s wider health and social care needs, as well as other issues such as employment and housing.

  7. Cardiovascular disease prevention (PH25)

    This guideline covers the main risk factors linked with cardiovascular disease: poor diet, physical inactivity, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. It aims to reduce the high incidence of cardiovascular disease. This, in turn, will help prevent other major causes of death and illness, such as type 2 diabetes and many cancers.

  8. Weight management before, during and after pregnancy (PH27)

    This guideline covers how to assess and monitor body weight and how to prevent someone from becoming overweight or obese before, during and after pregnancy. The aim is to help all women who have a baby to achieve and maintain a healthy weight by adopting a balanced diet and being physically active.

  9. Domestic violence and abuse: multi-agency working (PH50)

    This guideline covers planning and delivering multi-agency services for domestic violence and abuse. It aims to help identify, prevent and reduce domestic violence and abuse among women and men in heterosexual or same-sex relationships, and among young people.

  10. Unintentional injuries: prevention strategies for under 15s (PH29)

    This guideline covers strategies, regulation, enforcement, surveillance and workforce development in relation to preventing unintentional injuries in the home, on the road and during outdoor play and leisure.

  11. Sexually transmitted infections and under-18 conceptions: prevention (PH3)

    This guideline covers one-to-one interventions to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and under-18 conceptions. The aim is to reduce the transmission of chlamydia and other STIs, including HIV, and reduce the rate of pregnancies among women aged under 18.

  12. Tobacco: preventing uptake, promoting quitting and treating dependence (NG209)

    This guideline covers support to stop smoking for everyone aged 12 and over, and help to reduce people's harm from smoking if they are not ready to stop in one go . It also covers ways to prevent children, young people and young adults aged 24 and under from taking up smoking. The guideline brings together and updates all NICE's previous guidelines on using tobacco, including smokeless tobacco . It covers nicotine replacement therapy and e-cigarettes to help people stop smoking or reduce their harm from smoking. It does not cover using tobacco products such as ‘heat not burn’ tobacco.

    This guideline covers the nutrition of pregnant women, including women who are planning to become pregnant, mothers and other carers of children aged under 5 and their children.
