You can either choose from our example agendas or tell us what you want to learn about. We will tailor the topics and duration of the seminar to meet your needs.

Examples of full and half day seminar agendas (Word)

This service is popular with international governments, government agencies and universities.

The 2-day programme was packed with interesting presentations and good discussions.

It was very giving for us to get insights into how NICE works and especially insights into the reasons/discussions behind the decisions taken, which we can bring along in our work of changing our methods and processes.

Case study: HTA workshops in Latin America

NICE International's Pilar Pinilla Dominguez (second from right) is pictured with former NICE committee chair Professor Bruce Campbell (far left) and other workshop participants.

We delivered workshops for representatives from 8 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean:

  • Brazil
  • Colombia
  • Uruguay
  • Peru
  • Costa Rica
  • Mexico
  • Dominican Republic
  • Panama.

The workshops were coordinated by the UK Department for International Trade in Latin America and the British Embassy in these countries. They were part of a regional mission to encourage country to country learning and experience sharing.

What was involved?

We met with representatives from organisations in each country. These included health ministries, hospitals, patient organisations, industry regulators and academic institutions.

The workshops looked at the role of each stakeholder in their country's HTA process and explored areas for improvement.

Participants shared their knowledge, perceptions and experience of HTA. The conversations covered:

  • HTA as a tool for evidence-based decision making
  • roles and responsibilities of stakeholders within a transparent process
  • stakeholder engagement (a crucial success factor for implementation)
  • barriers to implementation in Latin American and Caribbean countries
  • opportunities for further collaboration.

We also held some follow-up workshops to continue the discussion in certain areas.

We received terrific feedback from the audience, not only on the quality of the content but also on the way it was delivered.

Your readiness to adapt and anticipate our inputs during the event [was helpful], enabling the discussion towards constructive strategies to address the challenges in each of the healthcare systems.

I believe we have achieved our objectives for this initiative in all countries and overcame our expectations in some of them.

Arly Belas, head of life sciences and healthcare at the Department for International Trade in Latin America

What were the outcomes?

  • NICE and the Institute of Health Technology Assessment (IETS) in Colombia signed a collaboration agreement. IETS has compared its processes and methods with ours and published its first patient involvement manual.
  • The National Commission for Technology Incorporation (CONITEC) in Brazil has also launched a patient involvement manual. They've started including lay members in their committees and recording committee meetings to improve transparency. We gave advice in all these areas.
  • We were invited to speak to the Uruguayan Parliament about NICE's experience as an independent national HTA agency in England. The parliament passed a bill to set up a similar agency in Uruguay and we will be involved in its development.
  • Representatives from Mexico and Peru sent follow-up requests for technical collaboration with NICE.
