- Rationale:
Pulsed-field ablation for atrial fibrillation (HTG755) was assessed in 2025 by NICE’s interventional procedures (IPG) committee. The procedure was recommended for use with standard arrangements. The evidence showed that it reduces atrial fibrillation and its symptoms and increases quality of life in the short term. The evidence also suggested that the procedure has no major safety concerns.
However, despite the recency of the NICE guidance, IPGs do not make comparisons between alternative treatments, do not include assessments of cost effectiveness and do not make technology specific recommendations. Whilst the IPGs provide support to clinicians doing the intervention, further guidance including a technology specific assessment of cost effectiveness would benefit procurement teams when considering the adoption and use of the intervention.
