Prioritisation programme:
HealthTech
Rationale:

The NHS 10-Year Plan highlights the importance of early and accurate detection of cancer and it provides support to use genomics as part of detection. The Plan for Change ambition places significant importance on the use of biomarkers to advance disease detection. The Major Conditions Strategy has a focus on cancer as one of its six groups of conditions which require changes in services to improve outcomes for patients. The GIRFT national specialty report on urology highlights the increasing demand and pressures on urology services with a notable need to increase resources in order to provide specialist services. The report also highlights that bladder cancer is one of the most serious conditions that urologists deal with and delays in definitive treatment, particularly in relation to muscle-invasive bladder cancer, are known to reduce survival chances. This places importance on the need to improve early and accurate diagnosis as well as prompt treatment.
