NICE has assessed 4 different faecal immunochemical tests (OC Sensor, HM-JACKarc, FOB Gold and RIDASCREEN) to help the NHS decide whether to use these products.
Faecal immunochemical tests can detect small amounts of blood in stool samples and help GPs decide if people should be referred for more urgent tests.
The OC Sensor, HM-JACKarc and FOB Gold tests are recommended. They help to decide if a person who doesn’t have rectal bleeding, but who does have unexplained symptoms which could be associated with colorectal cancer, should be referred urgently for more tests.
There is not enough evidence to recommend the use of the RIDASCREEN tests.
