May 2023: We have undertaken a review of our guidelines portfolio to identify topics that we think will add the most value to the health and care system and have agreed this topic will not proceed as planned. Further information about the guidelines portfolio review.

Portfolio review: May 2023

At NICE, we owe it to health and care professionals, commissioners and patients to make our guidance the most useful and usable it can possibly be and to focus on areas where we can have the biggest impact, taking careful account of current system pressures.

We have therefore recently reviewed our guidelines portfolio to identify topics that we think will add the most value to the health and care system, considering key factors such as clinical benefit, cost effectiveness, the potential to increase productivity and support workforce issues and the potential to address health inequalities.

As a result, we have identified several topics in the portfolio where work will stop for the time being to allow us to focus on key priorities. These topics will be reconsidered by the new NICE-wide Prioritisation Board that is being established currently by the Chief Medical Officer and we will make further information available on the NICE website once topics have been reprioritised.
