Current evidence of the safety and efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for hepatocellular carcinoma appears adequate to support use of the procedure, provided that normal arrangements are in place for consent, audit and clinical governance.


It is recommended that:

  • patient selection should be carried out by a multidisciplinary team that includes a hepatobiliary surgeon

  • the procedure should be monitored by CT or ultrasound.
