Bladder cancer

Bladder cancer

The bladder stores urine before it is passed out of the body. It is located in the front of the pelvis. It is made up of 3 layers – an inner lining, a muscle wall and a thin layer in between called 'connective tissue'. Bladder cancer is a growth of abnormal tissue that starts in the lining and can spread to the muscle wall.

Bladder cancer is one of the 10 most common cancers in the UK. It is most often found in men aged over 60, but women and men younger than 60 can also get bladder cancer.
