June 2015: This quality standard has been updated to ensure alignment with the NICE guidelines on postnatal care up to 8 weeks after birth and antenatal and postnatal mental health, which are development sources for this quality standard. The guideline on postnatal care was updated in December 2014 to review the evidence on co‑sleeping and sudden infant death syndrome, and new recommendations were added. The guideline on antenatal and postnatal mental health was also updated in December 2014.
In particular, quality statement 4 on safer infant sleeping has been updated in line with new recommendations 1.4.47–9 in the postnatal care guideline. For more information about the changes to the postnatal care guideline, see the update information section in the guideline on postnatal care.
Minor changes since publication
November 2019: The definitions for statement 3 have been changed to align with the updated NICE guideline on fever in under 5s. References, data sources and policies have also been updated throughout.
