Information for the public
Sotatercept (Winrevair), with other pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) treatments, is available on the NHS. It is a possible treatment for PAH in adults with World Health Organization functional class (WHO FC) 2 or 3, to improve exercise capacity.
WHO FC 2 or 3 corresponds to low, intermediate–low or intermediate–high risk on the European Society of Cardiology and European Respiratory Society (ESC/ERS) risk-stratification framework.
Sotatercept can be used if:
- it is started when the PAH is at intermediate–low risk at follow up after usual treatment for PAH
- the PAH has progressed to intermediate–high risk, if treatment with sotatercept was started when the PAH was intermediate–low risk.
If you are not eligible for sotatercept but are already having it, you should be able to continue until you and your healthcare professional decide when best to stop.
Is this treatment right for me?
Your healthcare professionals should give you clear information, talk with you about your options and listen carefully to your views and concerns. Your family can be involved too, if you wish. See our webpage on shared decision making.
Questions to think about
- How well does it work compared with other treatments?
- What are the risks or side effects? How likely are they?
- How will the treatment affect my day-to-day life?
- What happens if the treatment does not work?
- What happens if I do not want to have treatment? Are there other treatments available?
