    1 Introduction

    1.1

NICE's core purpose is to help practitioners and commissioners get the best care to patients fast, while ensuring value for the taxpayer. For over 20 years, NICE has played a key role in using the best available evidence to develop recommendations that guide decisions in health, public health and social care. This work is guided by the NICE charter and NICE principles.

    1.2

To support the changing needs and objectives of all parts of the health and care system, NICE is transforming to ensure its guidance remains relevant, timely, useable and effective. To achieve these aims, the methods and processes that underpin NICE's guidance need to evolve.
