Consultation on NICE's proposals for making the guideline development process more efficient

This consultation document sets out changes that NICE are proposing to the process for developing clinical guidelines.

After taking into consideration comments received from the guideline developers, stakeholders and the wider public, and subject to Board approval at their meeting in September 2011, all changes to the process will be incorporated into the manual ‘Guideline development methods - information for National Collaborating Centres and guideline developers'. Changes to the process will take effect on all guidelines either starting scoping or entering validation phases from October 2011.

We propose making changes in the following areas:

  1. the consultation process with stakeholders
  2. the Guideline Review Panel process
  3. the Pre-publication check process
