3rd Annual Health Policy Conference in collaboration with Renmin University, Beijing, China
In September 2012, NICE and Renmin University held their third annual health policy conference. The theme of this year's conference was hospital reform. Over two days, the conference attracted more than 300 delegates, including senior policy makers from the Ministry Of Health and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security as well as the Beijing and provincial health authorities, hospital managers, academics, industry and the press, and representatives of the British Embassy. The UK team included Sir Michael Rawlins and Kalipso Chalkidou from NICE, and David Stout, from the NHS Confederation.
The UK team had the chance to learn more about hospital reform in rural and urban China and discuss the NHS reforms and the role of NICE in the new system. There was particular interest in NICE pathways and Quality Standards as means for improving quality and efficiency.
During the visit, Sir Michael Rawlins was made a "Guest Professor" at Renmin University, the first non-Chinese to be offered this title at the Healthcare Reform and Development Center of the School of Public Administration and Policy.
We look forward to working with our Renmin colleagues throughout the coming year and to organising the fourth conference in 2013.
