Workshop on Clinical Guidelines for maternal care in Mumbai, India

Together with the Foundation of Medical Research in India, Francoise Cluzeau ran a two-day workshop in Mumbai on clinical guidelines for maternal care in India, with support from the Population Foundation of India, New Delhi and Tata Steel Rural Development Society, Jamshedpur. The workshop brought together 20 participants with experience in guideline development and implementation at maternity and community level from Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala and Maharashtra, representatives from national societies, the Federation of Obstetricians & Gynaecological societies in India and input from the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI).

Participants reviewed the quality of existing guidelines (using the international AGREE criteria), shared experiences of implementing guidelines and explored adaptation of international guidelines for use in India. Together, they identified specific areas for improvement in maternal care across India, where clinical recommendations could be developed as a priority.
