NICE website development
With nearly one million visits every month, the NICE website is an essential resource for those planning, providing and receiving health and social care services. Since our formation in 1999 we have become recognised as a world leader in setting standards for high quality healthcare and for promoting healthy living.
We have relaunched our website as part of a project to develop and improve access to our guidance and other products. The website is the start of a number of improvements we will be making.
Improving access to NICE guidance
We've made improvements to:
- Search We have upgraded the search facility, so that it is now possible to search within, as well as for, guidance, returning more accurate and relevant results.
- Browse A new ‘find guidance' tab in the top left hand corner, accessible from every page on the site, is a new way to look at guidance.
Integrating our digital products
Do you want to know everything NICE has said on a particular topic such as diabetes? Until recently, finding the answer to this question would involve searching for over a dozen individual pieces of guidance - technology appraisals, clinical guidelines, interventional procedures - and trying to piece these all together. With the launch of NICE Pathways in May this year, now all you need to do is visit the NICE Pathway on diabetes, for example, showing you at a glance everything NICE has said on the topic, including links to the diabetes quality standard, and the suite of tools we have produced to help put the guidance into practice.
The website redevelopment has integrated pathways with the rest of the site, and provides quicker access to the web-formatted versions of guidance, so that users don't have to click through PDF documents to find what they are looking for.
Since October 2011, NICE has stopped supplying or mailing printed copies of guidance. The website relaunch reflects this change, improving online access to our guidance and other products.
Phase two of the redevelopment will look at how we can improve the functionality and interactivity of the website, and integrate more closely other services provided by NICE such as the National Prescribing Centre and National electronic Library for Medicine.
