Diagnostics Assessment Programme manual
NICE's Diagnostics Assessment Programme assesses technologies that evaluate a patient's condition. These technologies may be used for various purposes: diagnosis, clinical monitoring, screening, treatment triage, assessing stages of disease progression, risk stratification and so on. The Programme manual describes how the NICE Diagnostics Assessment Programme develops guidance. The manual also describes the principles and methods used to assess diagnostics. The Programme is designed to ensure that robust guidance is developed for the NHS in an open, transparent and timely way, allowing appropriate input from stakeholders.
The manual has been developed with substantial input from individuals and organisations within the NHS, the medical technologies industry, academia, patient and carer organisations and the Department of Health. Comments resulting from public consultation are provided below.

This manual is effective for all diagnostic evaluations started after 1 January 2012. For evaluations started before that time, the interim methods statement and the interim process statement are still effective.
