Framework document

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence was established to promote clinical excellence and the effective use of available resources in the health service in England and Wales.

The Institute will set clear national standards which will help to improve the quality and consistency of NHS services throughout the country. These standards will help to tackle inequalities in health and access to care.

This service framework document explains how the Institute will conduct its work programme and highlights the links between the Institute and the Department of Health and the National Assembly for Wales.
