HDA publications

Many Health Development Agency (HDA) publications are available in PDF format below. These publications were either:

  • produced by the HDA, or
  • commissioned by them, but published after its functions were transferred to NICE.

While these publications help support evidence-based decision making by public health practitioners, they do not represent NICE guidance.

Health beliefs of the Chinese community in England: A qualitative research study

This research describes the nature, the structure and the function of Chinese health beliefs and how that impacts on the use of health services. It also assesses what the consequences of living by certain health beliefs might be in terms of acquiring new biomedical information. A third aim was to assess what problems Chinese people experienced using the NHS, and whether they were drawing on other resources such as folk healers or traditional, classically trained medical doctors.
