HDA publications

Many Health Development Agency (HDA) publications are available in PDF format below. These publications were either:

  • produced by the HDA, or
  • commissioned by them, but published after its functions were transferred to NICE.

While these publications help support evidence-based decision making by public health practitioners, they do not represent NICE guidance.

Black and minority ethnic groups in England: Second health and lifestyle survey

This report presents the findings of the second Health Education Authority survey on the health and lifestyles of black and minority ethnic groups in Britain. While the first survey covered a range of key areas, including aspects of ethnic identity, and focused particularly on smoking, the second survey provides further reformation on the characteristics of black and minority ethnic people in Britain, featuring more detailed analyses of demography, language and religion. Issues relevant to circulatory disorders (including diabetes) are highlighted, both because these have been shown to be prime concerns of people of minority ethnicity, and also because they are major causes of morbidity and mortality among ethnic minorities.
