HDA publications

Many Health Development Agency (HDA) publications are available in PDF format below. These publications were either:

  • produced by the HDA, or
  • commissioned by them, but published after its functions were transferred to NICE.

While these publications help support evidence-based decision making by public health practitioners, they do not represent NICE guidance.

Effectiveness of mental health promotion interventions: A review

The Health Education Authority commissioned a review of health promotion interventions dating from 1980 to 1995, intended to tackle a variety of mental health problems. The aim was to identify the types of interventions (general or targetted at high risk groups) that had been effective in preventing certain mental disorders and promoting positive wellbeing in three main age groups. The research was carried out by Sylvia Tilford, Faith Delaney and Michelle Vogels of the Health Education Group, Faculty of Health and Social Care, Leeds Metropolitan University.
